MPTCP or MPQUIC - Which One is Better for General-Purpose Networking

Michał Morawski, Przemysław Ignaciuk · 2021

Multipath transmission becomes a recognized alternative for the traditional Quality of Service architectures. Two multipath protocols: MPTCP and MPQUIC have found wider acceptance. Both have different advantages and weaknesses from the application viewpoint. The paper presents a comprehensive comparison of their general-purpose traffic properties evaluated in the public Internet by means of physical devices. The analysis concentrates on dynamical profiles of throughput and delay for single and multiple parallel flows. Based on the obtained measurements, recommendations and improvement directions are provided.
