D. Fils, Jens Klump, Robertson, Jesse · Zenodo (CERN European Organization for Nuclear Research) · 2020

This presentation summarizes the outcomes of the IGSN 2040 Sprint. The sprint ran from 25 May to 05 June, 2020. The goals of the sprint were to Develop draft publication guidance documentation, schema and examples to support expressing sample metadata Provide IGSN sample allocators an opportunity to evaluate internal workflows to support publishing sample metadata following structured data on the web approaches Test existing web architecture based harvesting methods with IGSN information providers Explore potential use cases and interfaces for the harvested data Participants include representatives from ARDC, AuScope, CSIRO, LDEO at Columbia University, MARUM, the New Zealand MBIE, and Ocean Leadership. Communication during the sprint was handled using asynchronous discussions on GitHub and weekly stand-up calls. Please see the presentation slides for a review of the outcomes. Funding for the IGSN 2040 project comes from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. The IGSN 2040 team is conducting a strategic planning effort for the IGSN e.V., the implementation organization of the Global Sample Number (IGSN), with the goal to “achieve a trustworthy, stable, and adaptable architecture for the IGSN as a persistent unique identifier for material samples, both technically and organizationally.”
