Evaluation and Analysis of Cyber Attacks in Nigeria

In recent years, the advent of Information Technology (IT) in carrying out operation on large amount of data and interconnectivity has led to tremendous increase in security threats. Networks have become a central feature in many people’s lives, both for personal and business use. The internet is a network of networks and so each of those networks needs some security features in place. In Nigeria, large-scale cyber attacks, designed to take down or compromise national infrastructure, are suspected to have been carried out by individuals and some groups. This disturbing trend of cybercrimes and related insecurity calls for pressing need for joint efforts to protect Nigeria’s cyberspace. The paper evaluates the cyber attacks in Nigeria with particular interest on banking. Sample questions were collected and analyzed. The results showed that Nigerian banking industry needs to do a lot to improve the security measures as most customers are either victims of cybercrime or vulnerable to one.
