Error analysis for English-Arabic translation

Zakaryia Mustafa Almahasees · 2021

In the previous chapter, the holistic evaluation of MT was described to provide overall feedback about the translation quality at the segment level on two important aspects of translation: adequacy and fluency. However, this type of evaluation does not highlight the specific errors in translation, and the main causes of such errors. Therefore, the current chapter looks into the specific errors committed by the three systems under study at the whole-text level. The first part of the chapter scrutinises the errors made at the whole-text level from Arabic into English, and the latter looks at errors made from English into Arabic in light of Costa et al.’s (2015) framework of EA in terms of orthography, lexis, grammar, and semantics.
