Background: Forensic dentistry provides identification for the victim in many different scenarios. Data other than the description of the dental condition can be utilized in forensic dentistry like in case of marked dental prosthesis, it can provide important information in cases of major mass disasters where identification of the person becomes a tedious process. The coding system in prosthetic dentistry is available for removable dentures either partial or complete and also for metal crowns. As more people are opting for fixed prosthesis that too for ceramics, the need for having a coding system for ceramic restorations has gained paramount importance. In the current scenario the significance of dental marking or coding system is of vital significance. Removable prosthesis may get dislodged but this is not the case with the fixed prosthesis. Therefore it can play a vital role for identification of the individual either living or dead. Aim: To develop and evaluate the efficacy of coding system for ceramic restorations for retrieving the identity of individual in forensic dentistry. Technique: IPS E-max Press ingots, Glaze & Stain Liquid for E-max, Thermal transfer ink ribbon-YS-350T, Heat resistant QR code strips-HP-CBR X1617. This study focused on developing of the code to be used for ceramic restoration. A QR code (data matrix) was developed to be incorporated in the all ceramic restorations. A total of fifty samples were used to incorporate the code which were then subjected to readability by the scanner/ android mobile phone. Conclusion: AQR (data matrix) was developed of size 3.75 mm which was readable after incorporation in the all ceramic restoration.
