Deploying Fake Network Devices to Obtain Sensitive User Data

Miroslav Ďulík · 2021

This article focuses on plug & play network protocols - SSDP and WSD and security aspects. These protocols facilitate installation and deployment of new network devices in local networks. Implementation of these protocols is simple but lacks any security features. Therefore, malicious user or intruder can easily misuse them to collect sensitive data and files. As these protocols are also implemented in MS Windows, implementation of these protocols and possible attacks using fake devices deployed in local network is described.
