An Analytical Survey of Defuzzification Techniques

Defuzzification is the final unit of a fuzzy system that provides the crisp output from the fuzzy output. There are several defuzzification techniques. The selection of defuzzification technique greatly influences the outcome of a fuzzy inference system. Here, we provide a comprehensive and critical survey of significant defuzzification techniques including both traditional techniques and recently proposed techniques. Also we have pointed out the current challenges in developing an unique defuzzification technique. Finally, we conclude with a new proposal of defuzzification method for selection of appropriately and optimally suited defuzzification technique for a given application.
