Uncuffed: A Blockchain-based Secure Messaging System

Vasileios Dimitriadis, Leandros A. Maglaras, Nineta Polemi, Ioanna Kantzavelou, Nick Ayres · 2021

Messaging systems used in critical applications, like communication in autonomous vehicles, increase the security issues that lead faster to breaches, loss, and damage. Additional requirements specify directions towards new solution approaches. The blockchain technology is proposed in this article for a simulation messaging platform based on the Bitcoin protocol to prevent personal data leakage. The selected mechanism takes advantage of the data storage decentralization of blockchain, and provides private interchange of secure messages and images. Attempts to obtain valuable data are halted by the proposed UNCUFFED system that supports two groups of users, the Miners and the Clients. Miners collect rewards as active blockchain members, whereas Clients send messages out of the platform.
