A Runtime Visualizer For Microservices

James Marshall, Gerald Kotonya · 2021

Microservices facilitate faster system release cycles and better scalability by providing fine-grained services with independent lifecycles. However, while microservices allow organizations the flexibility and speed to respond to system changes, they also present key challenges. Dynamic interactions and blackbox nature of microservices make it difficult to monitor and address system deficiencies. This paper describes a runtime visualization framework for micro services that can be used to highlight important design considerations such as change impact, dependencies, latency, failures and call frequency. The paper presents the early results of evaluating the framework on a small case study.
