Medical institutes have become an integral part of human life. An individual visits a hospital or a dispensary many times throughout their life. These institutions keep the records of all such individuals to themselves and control confines its access only to its trusted or contracted medical practitioners, thus acting as a central authority over the patient’s data. However, the patient or the individual should be the one who ideally should be the controller of his/her medical records. Blockchain is a technology that provides a way to establish a decentralized and secure ecosystem. In this chapter, we propose an alternative system to handle the Electronic Health Records (EHR) in a decentralized manner, as opposed to the current centralized rigid system, in such a way that assures patient security and complete control of their health records.
