Common Pitfalls When Writing User Interface Requirements

Michael Wiklund, Erin Davis, Alexandria Trombley, Jacqueline Edwards · 2021

This chapter describes some of the common pitfalls that manufacturers might encounter while developing UI requirements. Manufacturers might have a lack of data on which to base their UI requirements and need to seek additional inputs to inform those requirements. Manufacturers might also not have a quality system to ensure the responsible implementation of the UI requirements. Manufacturers should also avoid documenting mutually exclusive UI requirements or requirements that are too prescriptive or creating an incomplete set of UI requirements. Finally, manufacturers should ensure their UI requirements can be validated from a design and/or human factors usability perspective.
