The liver is one of the most complex and vital organs that functions as a center for nutrient metabolism and metabolite excretion. The structure and function of these organs can be damaged by benzene which usually results in pollution in industrial environments. Syzygium polyanthum are usually used as a spice and traditional medicine. Pharmacologically, Syzygium polyanthum has many benefits such as anti-cancer, anti-hyperlipidemia, and strong antioxidant activity. In this study, the ethanolic extract of Syzygium polyanthum and its hepatoprotective effect on 22 benzene-in uced rats were tested. Healthy rats were used as samples and given extract for 21 days with a dose range of 400, 600, and 800 mg/kgBW, then induced with benzene every 3 and 6 days. The results showed that the ethanolic extract of Syzygium polyanthum can prevent liver damage by lowering the levels of biomarkers such as AST, ALT, ALP, GGT, Albumin, and Billiburin, which in this study were statistically significantly different (p<0.05). Therefore, it was concluded that Syzygium polyanthum has hepatoprotective activity.
