Word Endings, or Suffixes

Manisha Shelley Kaura, S. R. Kaura, Zak Hamby · 2021

Chapter 10 covers the endings of words, which change parts of speech or the meaning of a root word. We call these endings suffixes. Suffixes are single letters, syllables, or groups of syllables added after roots or words to make new words or to change the meanings of other words. Suffixes are like prefixes because they are both added to the roots to produce new words. Suffixes are powerful because they can change not only the word’s meaning but also its part of speech.
