Control Systems Validation
Phil DeSantis, Steven A. Ostrove · 2021
This chapter uses the widely used acronym CSV (for control systems validation) but will occasionally use "qualification" when it is considered appropriate. While the chapter on computerized systems focused primarily on software, the chapter will deal with the qualification of the various types of computer or automated control systems inclusive of their hardware. Software development and qualification are discussed in detail in the computerized systems chapter and will be discussed in this chapter only as it dictates the function of the associated hardware. The complete design, installation, testing and maintenance of these systems are subject to good information technology practice and handled similarly to equipment as described in the chapter on commissioning and qualification. Defining quality critical requirements is extremely helpful in validating control systems by focusing on quality critical requirements that need to be satisfied in operation.
