Security vulnerability analysis of OpenHIP and E-HIP protocols

Adam Gajdošík, Peter Kaňuch · 2021

Internet of Things is made of many common devices, such as televisions, sensors, cars, and many others, which are connected. The greater number of devices, the greater possibility of being attacked by hackers, whose aim is to harm other users. Their reason for such an action may be their own enrichment or just amusement. To prevent that and to protect data, various security protocols with different ways of securing integrity and confidentiality of communication have been created. The aim of this paper is to test two such protocols, OpenHIP and E-HIP (Efficient HIP). Based on the analysis, the most common attacks in the field of IoT were found as well as the ones that affect protocols of network security. In this paper, the choice of possible attacks has been narrowed to three of them, Denial of Service, Man-in-the-middle and Rogue server. Some vulnerabilities were successfully exploited and needed to be fixed.
