Performances of the SHA-3 candidates implemented in the Zynq-7000 Artix-7 FPGA

This paper presents a comprehensive comparison of all Round 3 SHA-3 candidates, aimed to be implemented in automotive Controller Area Networks, for better security and control. The hash algorithms comparison is performed with respect to the throughput value, the resource utilization and the throughput to area ratio. Furthermore, the power consumption is taken into account for a thorough analysis. In order to achieve this objective, the algorithms are implemented in ZYNQ-7000 XC7Z020 using VIVADO. As a result, all algorithms are ranked according to their respective overall performances with regard to the mentioned parameters.
