Security Solution for Cloud Based on Software Defined Networking

Cloud platforms represent one of the main components of the Internet. Thus, providing security solution for Clouds is a major concern for Cloud Services Providers. The recent Software-Defined Networking (SDN) technology was mainly adopted in the Cloud environment. In this paper we investigate and propose a solution to prevent Denial of Service attacks in a Cloud environment. We focus mainly on how to take advantage of the SDN technology for the proposed security solution and on the limitations introduced by this approach. Our demonstration consists of three scenarios of reaction to a Denial of Service attack, using the Ryu SDN controller and Snort network intrusion detection and prevention application.
