Communication and Emotion in the Context of Music and Music Television

This chapter briefly addresses the psychological functions of music and music videos. However, we do not emphasize differences between music and music videos. We initially discuss studies on habitual music preferences and their relationships with personality traits. Sociopsychological aspects of music being a tool to communicate one’s identity will be outlined. Among the emotional effects of music, we discuss arousal in particular. Finally, we address the selection of music.
