File Formats, Log Encoding, Data, and Compression

The Cineon project was responsible for the creation of the Cineon 10-bit log file format, designed to hold individual digital film frames. The Cineon image file format is very similar to the ANSI/SMPTE DPX file format, and they are for all intents and purposes used interchangeably. OpenEXR is a high dynamic range single frame file format released as an open standard along with a set of software tools created by Industrial Light & Magic, under a free software license. Tagged image file format (TIFF) is widely supported by many graphics applications and in digital motion picture production. A TIFF file also can include a vector based clipping path. Serial digital interface and high definition mechanical interface are digital video interfaces used for transmission of digital video signals including embedded audio and time code over hard wired electronic connections. The antithesis of interframe, intraframe encoding compresses the information in each individual frame discretely.
