Rapid changes and new consequential attacks to IT infrastructure are precipitously on the rise requiring the need for systems that are designed to enhance network security. The potential vulnerability of the network is ousted by these systems making ethical hackers aware of impending attacks on their networks. Conducting a forensic analysis on network security attacks is the ability to collect and analyze data to find out evidence that could lead to a specific break in a network intrusion detection. Wireshark network protocol analyzer tool helps the ethical hacker to reveal the loop-holes in the cyber security at the user level. In this paper, the functionalities of Wireshark as a sniffing network tool is illustrated, an experiment is carried out obtaining a live network packet capture, breaking down network transmissions and various packets. Analysis of the transmission is carried out which includes protocols such as HTTP, TCP, UDP to understand what is going on in the capture and determine website vulnerability. The analysis of captured packets is an important skill that aids security and ethical hackers understand the nature of the network traffic.
