Debugging Tools and Firmware Profiling

Mattia Rossi, Nicola Toscani, Marco Mauri, Francesco Castelli Dezza · 2021

While developing firmware from scratches, some errors can be made. Sometimes the algorithms are simple and issues can be fixed easily during whatever stage of development of the software, but some other times firmware can be really complex and it is almost impossible to find them during tests on a real hardware. To the aim of avoiding any problem of this kind, there are a couple of debugging techniques that can be adopted to check possible mistakes or to just verify the performances of the code in Simulink®. Namely, they are the processor in the loop (PIL) technique and the external mode execution, which are presented in this chapter.
