Origins of Quantal Structure Where do features and segments come from? This question has been addressed perlmps most explicitly by Stevens {1972) in his quanta! theory ofspe~ch. To a great extent, my work has been inspired by this seminal research and, as illustrated here, similarly attempts to deal with the origins of qnantal structure.
