With the rapid advancement in technology landscape, it is hard to predict which technology will dominate. However researchers are of the opinion that technologies such as Robotics, Machine Learning and Blockchain will profoundly influence our lives in the future. Security in most of IoT and network based systems is governed by trusted third parties which results in the widening of attack surface against such systems. Blockchain is quite a new technology and its capability of guaranteeing authenticity, integrity and tamper-resistance plays a vital role in bridging the missing gap by enforcing decentralized trust and robust security. Access control in IoT and other similar networked systems poses unique challenges due to resource constrained nature, enormous size of the IoT devices and dynamic topology. In this paper, we emphasize on recent Blockchain driven access control systems which aim to address access control requirements of IoT in particular and networked systems in general. We also provide the taxonomy of such proposals based on our evaluation.
