Verification of SECURE by Experiment

Experiments were conducted to evaluate the performance of SECURE and to assess the quality of composites fabricated by SECURE. Specifically, the tests were designed to determine how well SECURE performs its required functions, and to establish what improvements in cure time and in mechanical properties are offered by SECURE. The output of SECURE was converted to electrical signals by the computer and these signals were used to adjust the autoclave heater control. Although the SECURE and conventional methods result in acceptable cures, it is noteworthy that the cure cycle recommended by the material supplier may result in unacceptable temperatures. The modulii and strengths of laminates cured by SECURE are as high as those of the laminates cured by optimized conventional cures.
