Study of Hardware Attacks on Smart System Design Lab
N. Ramasubramanian, J. Kokila · 2021
The physical design of the Internet of things (IoT) is a combination of devices and protocols. Things act as IoT devices that are unique and collect data by intelligent sensing, evaluate information using processors, and transfer information through the internet. While transferring information between things and servers, there is a strict need for protocols. The IoT protocol should be more secure, reliable, and scalable due to the drastic increase in IoT devices. This chapter focuses on the simulation of smart system design labs using IoT builders and the study of recent attacks on physical structures with a future direction towards countermeasures. According to a recent report, IoT devices are vulnerable to 57% of attacks and its severity ranges from medium to high. Hardware attacks are classified and their features analyzed, with countermeasure for each described. A smart system design lab is simulated in TinkerCAD; its security analysis is studied to protect such labs from hardware attacks.
