Remote Appearances in the Felony Diversion Context

April Faith‐Slaker · OSF Preprints (OSF Preprints) · 2021

Using a randomized control trial methodology, this study will evaluate the effectiveness of synchronous or asynchonous remote check-ins in the felony diversion context. Specifically, this project seeks to answer whether asynchronous versus synchronous video appearances between program participants and Department of Corrections officers: • reduces unnecessary administrative burdens? • increases access to justice? • affects an individual’s perceptions of, and trust in, the criminal justice system? We hypothesize that asynchronous appearances, compared to synchronous appearances, will increase access to justice, reduce administrative burdens, and increase individuals’ trust in the system.
