Crafting Sound: Simple Sonic Interfaces for Education and Creation

Abby Aresty, Rachel Gibson · Interaction Design and Children · 2021

This course will prepare participants to incorporate sonic arts and crafts in their pedagogical practice or educational research in remote and in-person contexts. These skill sets complement a traditional electronics education toolkit through the authentic integration of visual and sonic arts. The course will be taught in three sections. We provide an introduction and overview for the course (15 minutes), introduce listening games as tools for critical inquiry and integrated learning (30 minutes), present graphic musical scores and sonic interfaces for STEAM learning (45-minutes), and share resources for kit-based STEAM circuits for remote learning (60 minutes).
