Misconceptions About Asking Questions

Benjamin Stewart Johnson · 2021

Common misconceptions about asking question are prevalent in education. For example, whole-class discussions are not effective at engaging all learners. Instructor talking does not engage all learners. Asking individual learners and employing “wait-time” does not engage all learners. Rigor does not mean trickier, or sneakier. Just because a learner appears attentive does not mean that he is. An instructor that actively engages learners with effective questions will get their attention and they will learn. Add to this, logic skills in asking questions, and inquiry skills, and a new generation of independent learners will be created and supported.
