In this letter, we consider a problem of throughput optimum channel switching for channel access by a secondary user in multichannel Cognitive Radio Networks in which there is a delay involved in switching from one channel to another. We consider an imperfect sensing model that takes into account false alarm and detection probabilities. We show that the problem can be posed in the framework of Partially Observable Markov Decision Process (POMDP), and obtain an average throughput optimal policy for which we provide structural results. Also, we propose a low complex algorithmASTUTEfor channel access based on one stage reward. We compare the performance of the optimum policy withASTUTE. Our results show that the average throughput performance ofASTUTEis very close to that of the optimal solution.
