Comparison of Chemopreventive Properties of Zanthoxylum armatum and Hibiscus sabdariffa on colorectal adenocarcinoma cell (COLO 201) through apoptosis process Various concentrations of Zanthoxylum armatum and Hibiscus sabdariffa are used in this experiment to determine the optimum dose for cell cytotoxicity effects on COLO 201 cells. Antioxidant index of both phytochemicals were determine by using antioxidant assay kit. Annexin‐v, caspases 3/7 and in situ cell proliferation methods were used to determine the apoptosis induction through the flow cytometry. Results of this experiment indicated that lower concentration (5 mM/g) of both phytochemicals in combination induced significant amount of cell deaths in two stages of cell cycle (apoptosis 53.79 and early apoptosis 18.11%) compared to other treatment groups and control. Findings of this experiment support that the traditional use of these two herbs in the treatment of various chronic diseases is justified. These findings also suggest that the synergistic effect of these phytochemicals may reduce the incidence of colon tumors and can develop as a chemopreventive agent.
