Together in Electric Dreams

Inma Martínez · Apress eBooks · 2021

To a 1980s person of my generation, “electric ” meant all that was cool and exciting: synthesizers, techno music, fluorescent lights, and bold colors that would range from our hair to our clothes to the shock and horror of the establishment. When the CO2 emissions began to put pressure on the automotive industry, electric was simply that, powered by electricity, and in the world of vehicles, to drive an electric car became the epitome of social responsibility. If driving an early-days hybrid was as exciting as driving a clothes iron, electric cars had a tougher crowd than that, with their battery needs, their handling, and that “cancelled-out” noise that turned the experience into a weird, sensorially deprived mishap. What happened next is the most exciting news in the history of motoring: we are going back to the 1980s, and “electric” is beginning to sound trendy, avant-garde, and futuristic as we make electric vehicles the next big thing in the future of this industry.
