The concept of combining computers, sensors, and systems to monitor and control gadgets has been around for decades; however, the Internet of Things (IoT) was not born until a few years ago. The IoT, which is an omnipresent cluster of devices bound to the Internet, has, on a fundamental level, altered the way the public thinks about what it implies to be online. The IoT, which guarantees a progressive, completely interconnected “smart” world with connections between objects and their environment and objects and people, is becoming more firmly interlaced in the global sphere. While the potential benefits are numerous, some challenges may yet stand in the way of broader adoption of the IoT. This thesis examines a few of the issues related to the IoT. It also examines the significance of Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and why PKI should be considered the key to solving the security, privacy, and authenticating risks of the IoT.
