Evolving Trust for High Consequence Microelectronics

Vivian Kammler · 2021

High consequence systems are built to be in-service for decades and abide by always-never principles. We develop high fidelity models and analyze them under worst-case scenarios, but we often do not or cannot have complete design knowledge. Since we must to some extent rely on third party suppliers and intellectual property, we must also learn to securely open perimeters and assign measures of trust through data artifacts and continuous monitoring. During this talk, I will cover bridges being built to support needs of ongoing programs and research that still remains to address hardware security and assurance challenges for modernization efforts.
