In Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), key sharing between the sensor nodes is a more challenging issue to defend communication. The security of Wireless Sensor Networks is different from the traditional network. Recently, many key pre-distribution schemes have been proposed to achieve secure communication between the nodes. Key management scheme is important to achieve security in WSNs. In this paper, we propose a novel key management scheme using Hyper Elliptic Curve Cryptography (HECC) based key pre-distribution scheme followed by pairwise key generation using simple hash and permutation function. In this scheme, a unique seed key is pre-distributed in to a sensor node from the polynomial coefficient generated using Mumford representation. Then, the key ring is generated using point addition and doubling operation over a unique key and pre-distributed into the sensor nodes. The main uniqueness of the proposed work is the generation of pairwise key based on the shared seed keys. Through the proposed key management scheme, the faultless connectivity and resilience is achieved. Security analysis of the proposed scheme has high connectivity with shorter key ring size and the probability of node capture is zero.
