With the help of overall image zooming, the limited interface space can carry more information, but too much zooming will also bring some cognitive costs. In this paper, we quantified the effect of scaling characteristics on visual perception through a set of visual search experiments. The results showed that visual perception was not affected when the scaling ratio was no greater than 2:1. Besides, we found that the higher the scale, the faster the visual search efficiency decreases with the number of items in the display (set size). We also analyzed the influence of different positions of the target on visual perception and found that the reaction time (RT) of the target in the central area was significantly shorter, while the reaction time of the target in the lower right part of the view was the longest. These results may guide interface space scaling transformation and interface layout design.
