Internet of Things (IoT) is a hefty network where numerous devices are inter-connected and have the capability to communicate with each other. Nowadays, IoT is being used in many applications such as e-healthcare systems, sensing and notifying the environment, traffic management, military environment, etc. In smart environments, IoT communicates with a mobile ad-hoc network (MANET) and sensor network (WSN) making it more eye-catching to users and inexpensive. Communication between mobile ad-hoc networks and wireless sensor with the IoT leads to the formation of a novel MANET. Such a system provides better mobility for the user and reduces the deployment expenses of the network. Energy efficiency is one of the major challenges in IoT systems as they have limited battery lifetime. In this paper, a novel multi metric energy efficient algorithm has been proposed for IoT networks, which selects the optimal path with minimum energy expenditure that leads to the enhanced lifetime of network and uniform energy consumption by the nodes. Simulation results show that the proposed technique outperforms the existing algorithms and extends the lifetime of the network.
