Scale to measure usability in Mobile Crowd Sensing (MCS) applications

Rafael Tezza, Guilherme Lima Vargas · Journal of Statistics and Management Systems · 2021

Mobile Crowd Sensing (MCS) applications are those where participants or users collect (through the different sensors on their mobile device - microphone, camera, GPS, among others) and share information in order to assist other users in making decisions (companies or government) or inform about the most diverse events. In this context, an important factor is the citizen / consumer adherence to this participatory process and studies have shown that usability is a crucial factor in this process. This article presents a scale to measure usability in MCS applications. The method employed made use of usability tests, development of a checklist with usability attributes in MCS and finally data analysis using Item Response Theory. As a result, a set of 30 items forms the usability measurement scale in MCS.
