The objective of this paper is to critically survey the existing and current research on Single- and Multi-Objective Parallel Genetic Algorithms (SMPGAs). Many early efforts on SMPGAs have been made for reducing the processing time needed to reach an acceptable solution. In addition, it was noted that in some cases the SMPGAs found better solutions than comparably sized singleand multi-objective serial genetic algorithms. This paper discusses many existing models for parallelizing single- and multi objective genetic algorithms. An attempt is made to identify some of the issues that have not yet been studied systematically under the umbrella of Parallel Genetic Algorithms (PGAs) and Parallel Multi-Objective Genetic Algorithms (PMOGAs). Finally, some of the potential applications of PMOGA are discussed.
