The Plausibility of Topological Data Analysis in Providing Internet Services
Yongnuo Liang · 2020
In the Internet era of abundant data, new methods of data analysis are necessary to provide help in the interpretation of large and noisy data sets. In this article, the author focuses on topological data analysis (i.e. TDA), a method which is capable of visualizing large, unstructured and highly complex multidimensional data. Current applications of TDA in analyzing data from trending social media apps, such as Twitter and Instagram, show promising reliability on user popularity prediction. Malicious network attacks clustered by TDA present a higher clarity result. Future uses of topological data analysis are explored with attention on social media and Internet security. Through the analysis of large qualitative data sets mined from Internet applications, it is concluded that TDA outperforms traditional clustering algorithms.
