IEEE Standard for Definitions and Concepts for Dynamic Spectrum Access: Terminology Relating to Emerging Wireless Networks, System Functionality, and Spectrum Management

George F. Elmasry · 2020

The IEEE standard provides definitions and explanations of key concepts in the fields of spectrum management, spectrum trading, cognitive radio, dynamic spectrum access, policy-based radio systems, software-defined radio, and related advanced radio system technologies. This chapter presents the definitions of advanced radio system concepts, including adaptive radio, cognitive radio, hardware radio, intelligent radio, and software-defined radio. It provides definitions of radio system functional capabilities, including adaptive modulation, cognition, geolocation capability, location awareness, system strategy reasoning capability, and transmit power control. The chapter presents the definitions of decision-making and control concepts that support advanced radio system technologies, as well as the definitions of network technologies such as cognitive radio network, dynamic spectrum access networks, and reconfigurable networks. It also gives definitions of terms related to spectrum management and glossary of ancillary terminology.
