This paper presents a novel easy-to-use human activity logger based on a wearable wireless body area network. The activity logger is based on open-source code and includes: 1) two Wear OS smartwatches with the mobile application that continuously acquire smartwatch sensor data (acceleration, orientation, angular velocity, step count, heart rate), 2) a smartphone with an Android application that logs smartwatch data as well as geolocation data (from the smartphone) and activity diary data, 3) a desktop application for data transfer, visualization, and manipulation. The system features are demonstrated in a representative use-case scenario. In addition, the system was validated on three subjects using a state-of-the-art inertial measurement system in a laboratory condition.
