TOPPLING FAILURE AND ROCK BURST ANALYSIS USING THE IMPROVED NMM AND DDA SIMULATION TECHNIQUES

Rock failure analysis is an important issue for disaster prevention because many natural disasters originate from a failure.A typical rock failure problem is slope toppling failure, which leads to landslide disasters, and another typical problem is rock bursting, which leads to underground disasters in geotechnical engineering.Although numerous studies have been conducted based on experimental, analytical and numerical approaches, there are still many unsolved problems. For example, elucidation of the effects of the deformation, cohesion and complex sliding surfaces on toppling failure analysis and the possibility assessments of rock bursts for different rocks at different depths in different tectonic levels still need to be performed.Failure analysis is difficult because of the characteristics of large deformations and rigid body movements that are involved in rock failure.
