Virtual photography in the aspect of human life plays a very significant function in the modern scenario. Segmenting images is among the most important components of image processing. Image segmentation is the method in which division and partitioning of an image is done and those parts are known as segments. It is an important step to collect data and analyze the image. The aim of segmentation is to reduce the interpretation of a picture into something more meaningful and simpler to interpret. It is used in various fields such as: medical, artificial intelligence, pattern recognition, remote sensing, image-sharpening, colour and video processing, machine learning, robotics, research, etc. It is a field that is broadly researched due to its various applications and extensive usage. This paper provides a brief review of different image segmentation techniques which are commonly used in image processing like, Edge detection, Thresholding, Region Growing.
