Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) require a number of small devices called sensors to collaborate into a cooperative network to perform the monitoring task. The sensor nodes must be deployed in appropriate locations to report accurate and useful information about the sensed phenomenon to the end- user for processing. In many applications, the choice of these optimal locations is considered a challenging task because of the inaccessibility of the region of interest. In such applications, the random deployment is the only available option where the sensors are firstly scattered randomly in the area of interest. Then, they reposition themselves in optimal positions to maximize network coverage. This paper presents a new hybrid dynamic deployment algorithm based on the Ant Lion Optimizer (ALO) and the Tabu Search heuristic (TS) called ALO- TS. The ALO- TS aims to maximize the network coverage by choosing optimal positions for the sensor nodes after the initial random deployment. Simulations results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed algorithm in achieving high coverage when compared with the standard ALO.
