6LoWPAN Security: Classification, Analysis and Open Research Issues

Sukanta Chakraborty, Abhishek Majumder · SSRN Electronic Journal · 2019

6LoWPAN is a widely used protocol in IoT communication. Internet Protocol version 6 Low power Wireless Personal Area Network (6LoWPAN) devices operate with very limited resources such as limited energy, low computation power and low memory etc. Security functions which work in traditional internet are not suitable for these resource constrained devices. Many researchers are working for secure communication between 6LoWPAN devices. Still 6LoWPAN has security vulnerabilities which explodes many kinds of network attack. In this work the security solutions for 6LoWPAN have been investigated. The advantages and disadvantages of existing solutions are also presented. The paper also mentions the security gaps in the existing solutions.
