Adequate quality of soil and water are essential for food safety. However, the intensive use of pesticides in recent decades, has led to an accumulation of their residues in the environment, considering that after the application, chemicals do not come in contact only with the crop and target organisms. A part reaches the ground and in the wash-out process gets to a lower layers of soil and groundwater. The fate of pesticides in the environment depends, above all, on their persistence, but also on the soil and water characteristics. The occurrence of pesticides in groundwater is of particular importance, because the groundwater is of great importance for agricultural production and also is one of the most important sources of drinking water. Bearing in mind the consequences of pesticide residues in ecosystem, this paper presents the pesticides route of beginning with then application, through the transformation in the of soil layers, final to accumulation in groundwater.
