Sonia Sonia, Tushar Semwal · 2021

Within chaos created all around because of the ongoing pandemic, elders are at a high risk of health issues. Living independently and away from your family members, it becomes even more difficult for them to manage all the tasks. Considering the age and health wellness, elders tend to forget things. For example, one might forget to turn off the water tap which can lead to water wastage, electricity wastage, etc. So, the need of an hour is to make a sustainable environment to stop wastage of resource along with monitoring elders' health. On sensing abnormality, in either case, the concerned person can be contacted by raising the alarm. Also, being social distancing as a new norm, this chapter discusses how technology has emerged as a great help to understand, analyze and conclude from the data received from the living spaces of human beings. This is helpful to encourage the concept of sustainability and gather information about human health. The chapter also discusses the various technologies that are being used by researchers to measure indoor environmental quality, human health, and wellbeing, along with case studies and real-life examples. The chapter focuses on heterogeneous sensors which can be used in smart homes to sense various aspects of human beings. In the latter half of the chapter, applications being developed by researchers into this vital domain are discussed.
