The Impact of Cognitive Radio on Green Networking: The Learning‐through‐reinforcement Approach

Mohammed Salih Bendella, Badr Benmammar · 2021

The role of green networking in wireless networks can provide conflict management between signal power and energy saving, i.e. need-based management of radio parameters, automatically and adaptively. Hence, there is need for cognitive radio (CR) services. CR or Smart Radio is a recent communication paradigm that has drawn the attention of mobile users, network operators and service providers. The learning through reinforcement will be used to build up a knowledge base that can be used to store information that will help the CR terminal in future decision-making. Because of its agility and ability to intelligently adapt communication parameters, CR allows us to minimize energy consumption and to move wireless networks toward “green networks”. While CR is clearly a highly promising technology, it can only be optimally used if all actors involved make the required effort.
