Short Queries and Indexes

Henrietta Dombrovskaya, Boris Asenovich Novikov, Anna Bailliekova · Apress eBooks · 2021

This chapter introduces and elaborates the concept of a short query. A query is short if it requires only small tables or a small fraction of rows in a large table to produce the output. Several examples presented in this chapter illustrate how to identify and predict performance problems, how to choose the most appropriate indexes, and how to support access to skewed data with partial indexes available in PostgreSQL.
