The manpower is an inseparable part of every business, institute and organization. Keeping track of the presence and absence of employees is becoming essential component of the business or the organization. It also plays an important role in student's life in improving the quality of education, by implementing a discipline for coming on time and it also adds value by keeping the student in track of lessons. Traditional methods of attendance like pen paper, head count, are time consuming, expensive and difficult to maintain. Therefore, a requirement of an autonomous system rises. The other existing methodologies like face recognition, iris recognition, signature, and hand geometry, retinal scan etc. are already available and are improving by the years. But these methods can be used by one candidate at a time. This paper proposes a new methodology which is based on automated approach, more robust, less time consuming and more accurate. The proposed approach is accessible by all the student/employee at the same time. This approach uses of mostly accessible and portable approach to introduce attendance monitoring which is a smartphone.
